Korean Tradition: Buchae

Korean Tradition: Buchae

Buchae (부채)

The buchae is a handmade, handheld fan that is used by people of all ages. Its use ranges from practical to performative purposes- one example of buchae being used is in buchaechum, a form of traditional Korean dance. Buchaes are most commonly crafted with paper, silk and feathers, and represent the dignities of its users.

But what's more important is that the buchae makes for a special, meaningful gift- especially when it is presented to an individual that holds close relation to the giver. At LEEHWA, we carry buchae in three distinct styles- Floral, Red and Korean Flag. All of our buchae are carefully put together to make for an endearing surprise.
